Throughout the past two decades, many individuals have written "unauthorized" arrangements of the Spider cadence without the permission of the composer. Every day it seems there is something in the news about music copyright and the ensuing legal battles. JW3 would like to put your mind at ease concerning licensing as it relates to the Spider cadence.
In coordination with the composer of Spider, JW3 has created the Suncoast Sound Spider Scholarship to be awarded each year at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention beginning in 2007 in Columbus, OH. All profits from the sales of the original cadence will be awarded to the Spider Scholarship Fund.
We are also assembling a collection of the Spider arrangements written over the past two decades for publication. Would you like to have your Spider arrangement published and available for purchase around the world? The process is very simple:
1. Contact JW3 at spider@jw3.com to obtain a "permission to arrange" form
2. Purchase a copy of the original Spider cadence
3. Once JW3 processes your request for "permission to arrange" submit your arrangement for publication
All profits from the sale of authorized, published arrangements of Spider will go to the Suncoast Sound Spider Scholarship Fund.
Help JW3 provide a deserving percussionist with much needed tuition! Purchase a copy of the Original Spider and submit your arrangements today.
Any arrangement of Spider that is performed without following the previous steps is in violation of US copyright law and subject to prosecution as stated in the US Copyright Code.
