Purple by Daniel William Boothe

Purple by Daniel William Boothe

Listen to Purple

One might think of purple as having meditative qualities (such as the beginning of the piece), being playful (during much of the multi-meter section), seeming even psychedelic (such as the crazy chromatic middle section) or nothing more than a slice of the color wheel (the ending). The performer should highlight these different sections without disrupting the flow of the whole piece. Care should be taken to always bring out the primary material, shape the long phrases, and to
communicate a sense of fictitious storyline.

While some technical demands in this piece are challenging, the performance should appear effortless and playful throughout. Purple was completed in 1999 and received its premier public performance by Charlie Nesmith in 2006.
