Reef-O-Matic Duet by Bill Bachman

The Reef-O-Matic Duet is an adaptation of the Reef-O-Matic full battery etude (also available through JW3.com) for snare and quad. While the title does include the word “reef,” I’ve found that this one feels good laying back a bit. (Maybe it should’ve been called Groove-O-Matic?) The modulations (changes in time signature) are such that the speed never really changes, just the feel. It may help to try and read the 12/8 sections as if they were simply 16th notes in 3/4 time (instead of 8th notes with a triplet feel).
